Hikaru Utada Steals Mens Souls… in Tetris

One could assume that most models chosen to fondle video game devices in advertisements probably have no idea what they’re holding. And in most cases you’d be right, except of course, in Japan.

Hikaru Utada 0wnz j00!

Pop singer Utada Hikaru has appeared in several DS ads in Japan but little did we know she is a self proclaimed Tetris master! Nintendo hosted a Tetris Battle event over the weekend in Japan where members of Club Nintendo had a once-in-a-lifetime chance to go up against the 23-year-old idol.

After losing the first two rounds — citing unfamiliarity with the DS — Utada came back to defeat 26 of 30 challengers, including one of Nintendo’s own developers.

Gamers walked away having learned a valuable lesson: Never underestimate girl gamers, especially the cute J-pop idol kind.
