Sonic + BioWare + DS = OMGWTFBBQ!?!

Whoa-kay! Hold on a minute. Suddenly Sega has teamed up with BioWare to create a Sonic the Hedgehog RPG for the DS. I’ll give you a minute to process that if you hadn’t already heard. I may not have enjoyed, well, any game BioWare has ever made but I admit they can craft a compelling story and wrap it up in an vivid, believable world like no other. Ok, Square’s pretty good at it too.

But c’mon. The Sonic universe? They do realize they can’t just ignore that Big the Cat and his best friend/fishing lure Froggy ever existed. They have to acknowledge that there are at least three other hedgehogs like Sonic, each one with a gimmick worse than the hog that came before them. And even if they choose to brush it off, I for one can’t forget about the last 12 years of horrendous Sonic games.

Forget creating a whole new Star Wars universe, this is BioWare’s most risky endeavor yet and one that I will follow closely as the game plods ever closer to its first of many delays beyond the initial 2008 debut that the press release promises.
