Out of town but don’t you put us out of mind!

Hey! Didn’t we do this just over a year ago? We sure did, only this time it’s for our Honeymoon and should also be a much, much more relaxed trip. No 14 hour marathon sightseeing sessions and plenty of off-property exploration as we’re driving down this time! There’s at least a few vegan restaurants that sound incredible that we can’t miss and we might even find a way into The Wizarding World of Harry Potter while we’re near Universal Studios!

Don’t abandon the site just yet though! I’ve scheduled a heaping helping of Name of the Game quiz posts that should pop up every morning (EST) and sometimes even twice a day! Maxx and Auritech have the keys now so bug them for new podcasts and posts because where we’re going, we don’t need, roads! … Oh crap, yes we do! YES WE DO!!!!

PodShot: An impromptu interview on Arcade Legends

In writing up Arcade Legends proper for a post over at Examiner, I finally sat down with one of its founders, Jesse Baker, and talked shop. I’d put it off for a long time because I’m dreadfully terrible at (and terrified of) interviews but I wanted to finally do what I could to get the word around! The audio quality isn’t so great (I recorded it with my phone) but I wanted to pass it along in podcast form anyways. Either way, it’s only about 15 minutes. Anyone wanna meet there sometime? How ’bout a Tweetup?

Living Life. Loving Games. Together. Forever.

Sorry for not recording a podcast today, we’re kind of busy getting married and all!! Weeeeeeeee! There’s no extensive ceremony or reception (yet!) but we will be busy most of the day. Click the image to check out our wedding site and, ya know, donate a lil’ somethin’ to our honeymoon or just leave a congratulatory comment! Thank you everyone for your love, friendship, and support here and in real life!!

Downtime Sucks!

Last week, to the day, our “wonderful” Time Warner Cable internet service died. Our computers and consoles have been offline since late Saturday and all the posts I was working on or had planned have been muddled because of it. I promise to get some stuff up soon but right now I’m freezing next to this drafty patio door that the cable guy had to open and I’m also hopelessly hooked on Mass Effect 2! Just wanted to let you know we’re still alive here and more schtuff is coming!

Windows Live Writer: A Test Post

caption test? This picture has nothing to do with this post btw. It’s just a test of Windows Live Writer which might possibly be a new alternative way to post to GameLuv without ever opening a browser window….

Umm, we’ll see how this turns out! Good luck data packets! Fly! Fly to teh intern@z! <—HAHA it turned that into an e-mail link because it had an @ symbol in it!

UPDATE! Actually, it works pretty well! Now, if only I weren’t already on the internet when I found something clever to write about.

Unhacked and Upgraded!

When I last updated GameLuv’s WordPress backend it was a harrowing ordeal involving several steps, numerous saved database files, and a reactivation process that never seemed to finish and clean up after itself. So once we got the site back to operational status I’m sure you can understand how I felt less than compelled to upgrade when another “upgrade now” notice popped up not a week later. I kept putting it off and look what happened! We got hacked!

I don’t understand it in the least but there was an exploit just recently discovered in older versions of WordPress (what we were using) that let unscrupulous types weasel their way into an admin account, insert some erroneous spam code and then try to back out without leaving a trace. I noticed the bad code right away but didn’t realize what it meant until yesterday at which point we managed to delete the BADmin accounts, upgrade the site and… promptly kill the database. Ooops! So I spent a few hours just now basically poking holes in PHP MyAdmin and miraculously got the site back up and operational! Horray for blind stinking luck!

Here’s where you guys come in. I’ve been meaning to update our comment system for a while and though I’d love to code my own proprietary system with all kinds of fancy whistles and bells, I’m perfectly happy using Disqus. The system is live on GameLuv right now and has folded in all your old comments but you’ll need to claim them for your icons or gravatars to show. Unfortunately, this does mean creating an account at Disqus but it is supported by a ton of sites around the web and it allows you to send your comments to Twitter and Facebook.

*Gee, that’d be a nice way of helping spread the word about GameLuv while at the same time sharing your insightful opinions with your friends and family!*

So if you’ve got a minute, find your last comment on the site, claim it, and we’ll all have happy colorful icons and a fancy new social media-y comment system to help us babble back and forth about games with! Welcome back to GameLuv!

Pack the Proxy Mines! We’re goin’ to Chicago!

perfectdarkchicago

Yeah, it's gonna look a lot like this. Pretty sweet, I know.

We’ll be sure to blog all about riding around in hover cars and chasing down Gray aliens named Elvis… god, what were they thinking!? Anyways, if this subtle (?) reference is waning, here’s the thing: we’re going to Chicago for the rest of the week for a wedding and to see a few sights. Anything gamey we come across will probably be blogged in one form or another so — if you aren’t already –  follow me and Katy on Twitter to keep up! And follow Maxx and Auritech too! Much pizza… shall be eaten!

Your Sunday PodShot is taking a Week Off

Sorry gang, I had to work today and Katy’s hurt her neck and shoulder so we’re gonna take this week off. I really really do plan on finally getting a mid-week show up this week so look for that around Wednesday/Thursday. In the meantime, aren’t there a few old episodes you missed? Or maybe you’d like to listen to me and NfamousGamer Rob talk about Downtime in modern gaming? Again, I’m really sorry to miss another week.

Thanks for holding My money IRS! I got a new PC!

Just a quick post to let everyone know that my old PC held up its end of our bargain and stayed completely functional until this fine day when I purchased the computer you see here; the Gateway DX4200-09. It’s not a monolithic black box and it doesn’t have glowing blue LEDs or a window to see inside like my old PC, it’s just new and runs great.

Maxx is the one that built that old PC of mine, way back in 2004. It was a different time then, a time when PC games simply had to be played and their releases actually meant something. It was also the heyday of blue LEDs and dazzling USB 2.0 performance. Since then it’s been my hands more than my aging hadware that put an end to my PC gaming. Things have finally improved, though, and I just may be able to WASD it up for a little longer nowadays. The new PC helps too.

I wasn’t looking for a monster gaming rig since most of what I wanna play is from 2004 anyways (I have a burning desire to replay Freedom Fighters) and I didn’t have a whole lot to spend from my tax return, so I’m more than happy with the bundled Radeon HD 3200 card. It’s allegedly not very powerful but CanYouRunIt.com says I meet the requirements for Crysis so by God I’m gonna give the demo a shot. Then maybe I’ll finally break down and install Max Payne 2 and crank up the debris sliders like it’s 2004 again!

After all that I’ll get back to copying over all my music/pictures/files, reorganizing my hard drive, adjusting to Vista and trying out stupid Gadgets and finally get back to posting! Cya in a month! Umm, just kidding.
