Cursed Mountain: More Mature Gaming for the Wii

The idea of mature gaming on the Wii is practically a misnomer. From the console’s inception there have been a few titles tempting the waggling arms of those looking for more than just colorful minigames, but the genre remains sparse and even harrowing. Just yesterday n-Space revealed that work on their mature-themed survival horror title, Winter, has been put on hold while they search for a publisher willing to get behind the game. If it’s not cute or casual, it’s apparently a near-impossible sell on the Wii these days.

That no-risk landscape hasn’t stopped others from trying though. Red Steel, Alone in the Dark, Disaster: Day of Crisis, and Resident Evil are just a few of the Mature-rated offerings for the Wii and it looks like good company for Deep Silver’s upcoming survival horror game, Cursed Mountain.

In the game you play as Eric Simmons, a man on the trail of his missing brother. Of course, he’s not lost in rural Idaho, his disappearance is somehow connected to Chomolonzo, a sacred mountain in the Himalayas, which you’ll be trekking all over in your search for the truth. Deep Silver hasn’t revealed much about the game’s horror angle (aside from these new ghostly screenshots), but traipsing around a Himalayan mountain definitely qualifies as a survival experience. There’s promise of altitude sickness and oxygen deprivation and even some Eternal Darkness inspired hallucinations.

With Deep Silver publishing the game themselves there shouldn’t be any worry about Cursed Mountain’s release, but there’s still nothing more solid than a snowblinded “2009” time frame. For now, check out the images behind the cut and marvel at a game that doesn’t feature a single family friendly sporting activity.
