Square Enix + Game Arts = I need a 360!

There have been times lately when I’ve begun doubting my gaming convictions. I’ve played and seen a ton of games this year but nothing has really excited me. E3 came and went and very few games peaked my interest aside from the Wii.

But today my heart twitched with a feeling of longing and sweet nostalgia. Square Enix and Game Arts have announced Project Sylph, a new installment in the Silpheed lineage.

Project Sylph

Startlingly, it looks like Game Arts are ditching the traditional shooter perspectives and bringing the camera in close behind the ship. While that helps push the 360’s hardware, the game doesn’t look that mind-blowing just yet. Hopefully running at a blistering framerate with dazzling effects exploding all around will kick things up.

For now all we know is what’s in the screenshots:

  • Close camera
  • Possibly four cycling weapons
  • Formation status (commandable wingmen!?)

Square Enix lets the warship out of the hangar on July 7th with the launch of the game’s official site (Japanese). In the meantime, check out some more screens over at GameWatch.
