Tetris; killing Tetrominos for 25 years and still going strong!

tetrisanniversary

It’s probably a date I should have stamped in my brain but it was Google that reminded me today that this is the 25th anniversary of Alexy Pajitnov’s timeless tetromino murder simulator, Tetris. Originally released on June 6th, 1984 it became kinda a big deal and has been played on just as many handsets and graphing calculators as game consoles and web browsers. This is where I would dig up a fact about how it was even played in outer space or by Kim Jong-Il but it seems kinda lame so I won’t. Suffice it to say, there’s plenty of T-shaped factoids at Wikipedia.

You can celebrate Tetris’ birthday today by playing hundreds of free online versions of the game, downloading the latest Tetris release on Xbox Live Arcade, or picking up the next game to take the concept of falling trash (literally) in a new direction with Trash Panic on PlayStation 3.
