I’m not trying to be one of the dicks I’ve seen in ArcheAge forum posts, but…

archeageloginfailed

I am starting to get worn down by the problems of this ArcheAge head start.  If this is what it’s like now, before the game is even open to the non-subscriber public, what will it be like on the 17th when the gates are really open?   I am unable to even login this morning which gives me time to write this when I would much rather be checking my crops.

I am new to MMOs so I assumed all the queuing, the authentication errors, failed logins and infinitely looping intro movie were normal for a brand new game. I figured Trion World does Rift and other mmos, so surely they are prepared.  I asked seasoned mmo players if 20 minute queues were normal for a paying member  at launch and found out they really aren’t. A friend said they were there for Rift’s launch and it was nothing like this.

I paid $50 for this game and the times I can get logged in to play it I feel it’s absolutely worth the money. I have already had $10 worth of fun since last Friday which I hope won’t be ruined when the official launch starts. I’m playing with online friends I really like that I don’t always get to team up with, plus my husband who I work well with in game (and out obviously).  There are so many routes a player can take in this game that from what I have heard are unique for an mmo.  I am leaning towards the gardening and crafting with a bit of trading.

I am sad that some people rushed to grab land so now many of us who were trying to take it gradually have nowhere to place a house. I have read that some guilds bought land up on purpose to resell or reserve for their guild or something, but as we know, most people are dicks, online doubly so.

I am able to login now, so that’s all I will say, at least until the official release.  PS We have a GameLuv guild as of last night “Gameluv dot com”

Y’s. The Ideal… MMORPG?

ysmmoBefore you totally flip out on Falcom, rest easy knowing that Y’s Online: The Call of Solum isn’t the end-of-the-line for the series. It was created with help from Falcom but the team is most  definitely at work on Y’s Seven which has taken a cue from Final Fantasy and will probably be spun off into several loosely connected titles. Meanwhile, Call of Solum will bring European PC owners all the joy and grinding of any other MMORPG with features that tout astounding Player Vs. Player, item enchanting and crafting, and of course, hundreds of fetch quests.

The closed beta has just expanded to Spain, France, and Germany but with Key to Play, a European gaming portal, at the helm it may be quite a while before it makes an official domestic appearance. I don’t know what the sign up process involves but both Key to Play’s and Y’s Online’s sites are in english. Me? I’ll just assume this is another MMORPG that I don’t understand and won’t ever appreciate and patiently await the innevitable Y’s Seven Puyo Puyo game.

Ether Saga

Katy plays Ether Saga beta

Katy plays Ether Saga beta

So far Ether Saga seems like the MMO I can handle.  I have only been playing two days, so this may change, but right now I feel hooked!

The only online games I have played have been Sims Online, Hero Online, Maple Story, and Silk Road.  The last two I only played for maybe a day, if not less.  Sims Online not included, the thing I don’t like about MMOs is trying to figure out where I need to be and dying a lot.  You go to attack one creature and they all gang up on you.  Ether Saga doesn’t have either of these problems (so far, it is in beta after all).  I can open my quest menu and click the highlighted task item and it takes me straight to it.  No looking at the map to find where the place is and then continuously reopening the map to make sure I’m going the right way.

As far as enemies go, I can stand in a field of enemies and they don’t attack me until I attack them.  Even then, the only enemy that attacks me is the one I hit first! YES!  I have yet to die or even get really low on health other than last night when they had some crazy event with a billion enemies attacking the city.  Even then I still was able to heal before dying.

The game design reminds me of Hero Online’s Chinese themed style, but it’s cute.  The way Mystic Heroes is a cuter Dynasty warriors looking game.  You have a pet and you can gain more pets in the Pokemon type method (weaken it then capture).  You can craft things, build up weapons and armor, and do lots of quests.  I have yet to figure out the crafting and such, but I have done many quests!

Ok back to my game…
