ActiveMinute for the week of February 21st

Invariably, once I turn something into a regular feature things get all screwy. Between some really bad food, a massive move-everything-in-the-store project and a recurring stomach problem I’ve had to put #ActiveMinute on hold since last Saturday. Hopefully just a few more days and I’ll be back up to average able-bodied-ness and ready to flail around some more! Here’s the latest update:

  • Feb 21st #ActiveMin Dance Central continues to bum me out. Rote memorization is not my idea of funtime. I’ll keep saying this until the sequel.
  • Feb 22nd Back to DanceMasters demo for a fast #ActiveMin as my arms are sore from allergy shots today. I’m now up to AA score on Geisha’s Dream
  • Feb 24th Kinect Adventures for #ActiveMin is KILLING ME with the Reflex Ridge! I’ve given up jumping because it can’t register quick enough
  • Feb 26th Last min. #ActiveMin with Kinect Adventures. tearin’ through those challenges but loads more to do! Still haven’t played online w/ anyone.
  • Feb 27th ShawnS52 Skipping #ActiveMin all weekend because work was more than enough exertion. Super sore and aching knee/back.

Though the logo may be heavy on Kinect, ActiveMinute is my attempt to justify all motion gaming peripherals I’ve collected over the years and get a little more physical activity into my day. Sessions last for only a few minutes and are chronicled on Twitter with the hashtag #ActiveMin. I’ll post a weekly roundup here so feel free to follow along, comment or join in yourself. Just use that hashtag!

ActiveMinute for the week of February 14th

  • Feb 14th #ActiveMin was going to be Body & Brain demo but it lasted all of 1 minute so I went back to Kinect Adventures.
  • Feb 15th #ActiveMin surprise yesterday when I found Just Dance hidden inside Rabbids: Travels in Time! Nice to play that again for a few.
  • Feb 16th Switched to Your Shape for #ActiveMin today. Broke 300 calories burned but still working on Gym Game high scores. Flakiest Kinect game?
  • Feb 17th Realized doing #ActiveMin today that yesterday’s hula hoop session “engaged” my obliques. And by engage I mean obliterated! SORE today!!
  • Feb 18th Today’s #ActiveMin was decidedly old school. I vacuumed the apartment and that was plenty of exertion after the ab killing hula hoop!
  • Feb 20th Retro #ActiveMin today with EyeToy Groove on PS2. The camera still doesn’t work right but it remains a lot of stupid, arm-fatiguing fun!

ActiveMinute for the week of February 7th

For the first entry in ActiveMinute I went back as far as I could to when we first got back from our vacation. It’s technically two weeks worth but I only had one entry from the first week of February so I threw it in here.

  • Feb 4th from ShawnS52 last night’s #ActiveMin was Kinect Adventures which turned into a half hour Rallyball game where I pulled a couple leg muscles. Pro.
  • Feb 8th from ShawnS52 Last night’s #ActiveMin was DanceMasters demo with @katiberz. We tried dual dancing mode. ill advised if your living room isn’t a warehouse.
  • Feb 9th from ShawnS52 Another #ActiveMin, another medal and Achievement in Kinect Adventures. Definitely the way to play that game. Little bits at a time.
  • Feb 10th from ShawnS52 Another Kinect Adventures #ActiveMin for today. I missed it yesterday so did extra long. Reflex Ridge, such a killer!!
  • Feb 13th from ShawnS52 #ActiveMin turned into a 20 minute workout session with Dance Central. Still not crazy about how you have to memorize dances to score good.

The Relevant Tweets: Afrika (PS3)

The Relevant Tweets represents all my micro-blogging status updates pertaining to a single game or topic, collected at key moments and patched together here as a timeline. I usually do this when I’ve finished a game but seeing how Afrika is one of those long, slow burns and now that I’ve finished the main missions and will probably be spending less time with the game, I thought I’d throw this together.

Oct 16th – I’ve waited four years. Why am I so broken hearted to hear that Afrika continues to be out of reach?

Nov 5th – Everything about Afrika is slow. Takes 5 min. to load each time, saving games takes nearly as long. But it’s pleasant like Endless Ocean…

Nov 5th – Busy night in Afrika. Got mauled a few times. Got some good shots though. Just like real life only it’d be photos of toys/cats. Later!

Nov 6th – Oh Afrika. Why couldn’t you have made it out here 3 years ago when you would’ve looked good? Still enjoying it but man, is it clunky

Nov 8th – This is where I am right now. Where the heavens touch the earth!

Nov 16th – Back in Afrika for a bit. I’m a busy photographer. Still wish it weren’t so clunky though.

Dec 21st – @Victor_Lucas finished Batman: Arkham Asylum (finally!) and PixelJunk Shooter. Wrapped it up with some Afrika. Sucker for photo sim = me.

Dec 23rd – Oh Afrika. I could get so much more done if you didn’t take AGES to load AND save. Still fun, just a slow, slow, slow burn of a game.

Jan 3rd – Waiting for a vulture and a stork to land near each other AND in front of my camera. EPIC!!!

Jan 11th – Wow, I think I just finished Afrika. But I didn’t save so I can do “final” mission over again. And get better pics of the Barbary Lion!

Jan 13th – Finished Afrika. Still mysteriously incomplete trophies/assignments. No clue what to do but I hope it doesn’t require a 2nd playthrough!

Jan 18th – @NowGamer_Dan ha! I totally know what one is thanks toAfrika! I took many a pretend picture of a sleepy pangolin!
