Introducing: Our PlayStation 3 Support Group

Of all the people we know, no one has a PlayStation 3 but us. I’m not bragging, you know how I feel about the thing, and we only got it because I felt it was a good deal. Hopefully by the time any of you bother getting one they’ll have updated the thing to include all the great features everyone keeps complaining about but there will always be things that you either don’t understand or accessories you don’t want to waste money on.

So we thought we’d offer our support now and either post tips and tricks in a permanent thread or offer up a mailing list to exchange some handy accessories.

Memory Card Adapter. This is probably the most useful of the overpriced accessories. The full retail price is about $20-$25 but Circuit City just had it on sale at $10. It took all of 3 hours to copy over our PS2/PS1 memory cards and now the thing will sit, unused forever. So I thought I’d offer it up to anyone who’d like to use it. Let me know and I’ll mail it off, then you can either mail it back or send it on to the next requestee.

An interesting note on this device. It’s funny how you can organize things once you have a hard drive and not $20 memory cards to buy. Where I used to cram every game save I could onto the old memory cards, I’ve now created dozens of them on the PS3 hard drive; one for each genre. There’s an RPG, Racing, Action, and Music game memory card for both PlayStation 2 and PSone. It’s a bit unwieldy to scroll through them all but you can tell which one you need to load up a lot quicker than staring at a big list of awkwardly titled cards with god-knows-what saved on each one.

I’ll probably wait for the tips and tricks until someone actually gets a PS3 but I wanted to get the word out now.
