PlayStation 3 Update Borrows more from the 360?
Ok, for starters I haven’t seen this list anywhere yet and the only link offered goes to Sony’s password-protected PR site so I can’t confirm these details are actually on there. As of right now this comes from D_A_T, your friend and mine on Livejournal’s Gamers Community.
Word from Engadget is that a veteran member at Sony’s own user forums managed to copy and paste these details from the password-protected PlayStation 3 PR site before Sony realized they slipped up and removed them. He’s allegedly gotten some good scoops before but this one still remains unconfirmed. Looking back on previous PS3 firmware updates there’s been one a month since February and each has hit in the third week of the month (the 19th – 28th), so it’s entirely possible 2.0 is indeed on its way. With that as the only proof I can offer, take this as you will.
I haven’t kept up with PS3 firmware updates but what looks particularly familiar is the addition of ‘Theme Settings’, the ability to set photos as wallpaper, multi-user chat sessions, and the ability to call up the XrossMediaBar during gameplay. What I’d like to see Microsoft borrow in return is the Dynamic Normalizer, RSS Feed integration, more visualizations for the music player, and of course, the web browser. Check out the full list inside.
