National Amusements opens CyGamZ Gaming Center
From the people who put bars inside movie theaters comes CyGamZ. Though it sounds like a lame game title CyGamZ is actually National Amusements’ stab at creating a hip LAN Center. And just like their recent attempts to capitalize on the other half of dinner-and-a-movie it’s built into the Ann Arbor Showcase Cinemas in Michigan. So now you can go eat, play some games, get a drink, and sneak into a movie; ya know, if you feel like seeing a movie at the theatre.
Inside CyGamZ are 60 Alienware Area 51 PCs, 12 Xbox 360s, 12 PlayStation 2s, a gigantic 110″ projection screen, and some PlayStation 3s (coming as soon as they can round up twelve of them). A wide variety of PC games are on offer with most Xbox titles you’d care to play with a group available. PlayStation 2 offers only NBA Live and BLACK which makes me think as soon as those PS3s show up they’ll boot out the older hardware. The facility also offers high speed internet access, local and nationwide tournaments, and a private party room.
CyGamZ has been open since the day after Thanksgiving but their grand opening isn’t until Wednesday the 29th at which two of the Frag Dolls will be on hand to flaunt their breasts skills.
While any new gaming venue is great news it looks like another gamble on National Amusements’ part to bring people back to their theaters. Our local Showcase (now redubbed Cinema De Lux with full restaurant and IMAX) is still struggling against the nicer Rave showcase across town and I’m not sure how big of a help a swanky gaming center would be.
