Rearing Walking Meter Ploddingly Angel Pocket with DS Ploddingly Diary

That’s right, everyone’s favorite ploddingly angel-slash-pedometer (Teku Teku Angel) is getting updated with an augmented reality DS title due out in December in Japan. Of course, this is all Babelfish translation so facts are hard to sift out of the seemingly random verbs and adjectives.

But it seems that Hudson released a Tamagotchi-esque device back in ’97 in Japan that acted as a virtual pet and pedometer. Instead of poking a button to play with or feed your little angel your daily steps act as nourishment. Keep walking every day (god I hope so!) and she’ll grow and evolve into a heavenly creature. Sit on your ass for too many days and she’ll get fat, sloppy, and eventually muster up the energy to leave you. And that’s gotta make you feel bad. Not only did you drive a cute angel to obesity, you’re a lazy slob yourself!

The updated device looks a lot prettier — available in both blue and pink variations — but works about the same. The big draw is the companion DS title which takes your Ploddingly Angel step data and turns it into a fictional marathon. Your daily commute of 3,000 steps around the office and parking lot propel you farther around the coast of Japan or Italy. The game features eight “courses” to virtually stride around. The title also has a handy calorie counter and graphing system designed in conjunction with Japan’s EatSmart Corporation.
