PictoChat + WarioWare + Friends = Agetec’s “LOL”
First we had WTF on the PSP and now Agetec has announced LOL for the DS, to be released in May. If anyone has plans to make a mobile game called ROTFLMAO you’d better hurry, there are precious few web acronyms yet to be copyrighted. I’ll say this about LOL, if it doesn’t ship at $20 or less it’s not worth it. Essentially it’s a custom version of the DS’ rarely-used whiteboard app — PictoChat — wrapped around a vaguely fleshed out game of Pictionary. I’ll just let the press release describe it:
LOL is played by one of the players making a challenge in writing to the others. The crazier the challenge, the more fun everyone will have. The person who delivered the challenge chooses an appropriate time limit, and everyone has to answer the challenge on their touch screen however they see fit – with words, pictures, or whatever comes to mind. The host reveals the answers, and everyone votes on a winner who will then decide on the challenge for the next round. Always different and a blast to play every time, LOL will, as its name implies, make everyone laugh out loud.
I’ll let you decide for yourself if LOL sounds or looks like fun. It’s a good idea but one that would probably have been more successful in the DS’ early days. With most multiplayer games nowadays incorporating the Wi-Fi connection it just feels a little lacking. I personally don’t know three other people in town that I could even play with so this one probably gets a pass from me.
