Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. Yup, for real!

It’s been a while since I’ve cared about a new Mortal Kombat game, so seeing this image for the first time conjures up visions of a brutal new stage setting; one with water skis, a ramp, and a shark. But I suppose if Namco can pull off Darth Vader and Yoda then Midway is welcome to stick whoever they want in Mortal Kombat, especially since this new one is officially called Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.

That’s all the details at the moment so I’d like to take this time to address a growing concern that I’ve just developed. Are fighting games on the way out? When storied franchises like Soulcalibur and Mortal Kombat have to start packing in pop culture icons just to get some headlines it makes me wonder. Maybe the key to keeping your series fresh is to put a decade between new sequential releases like Street Fighter. Or, bring back full body dismemberment!
