Prinny: Is it Ok if I get into Disgaea?
I really should give Disgaea a shot. Reading the review of Disgaea 3 in the new EGM makes it sound like the anti-RPG that I’ve always hoped for, poking fun at its own conventions and putting a spin on all the crusty gaming cliches. I own the original — purchased at a steal for collecting purposes — but never played it. I really enjoyed LaPucelle Tactics, R-Type Command, and Jeanne D’Arc, but those last two were best digested in small chunks on my lunch breaks. If only the PSP were capable of playing PlayStation 2 games…
Now wait just a second, there’s always Prinny: Is It Okay If I Am The Main Character? Not strategic or RPG-ic in the least, the game at least remains within the Disgaea universe, presents a gorgeous 2D action/platform adventure, and is completely portable by design. I may not get all the jokes and references (especially if Atlus doesn’t bring this one to the U.S.) but it looks great. A demo is incoming by the end of the month so I’ll be back with a bit more in October.
