Run over Dinosaurs in a Jeep (and an awesome 3D web games portal too)!
I’m a sucker for physics, and with my PC’s current lack of graphical power I’m becoming a sucker for web games too. So forgive me for bringing up Blurst, Unity 3D, and Off-Road Velociraptor Safari long after they were originally in the spotlight over a year ago. If there are any unfamiliar amongst us, Blurst.com is a 3D games portal powered by the outstanding Unity 3D engine that enables an honest-to-goodness 3D gaming experience right in your browser.
Off-Road Velociraptor Safari is one of those games and sees you careening around a prehistoric valley in a jeep with a spiked ball and chain for a few minutes at a time with the goal being to run down, impale, drag around, and “export” as many nimble be-feathered dinos as possible. There’s a lot to see and do as well as an Xbox style Achievement system that guarantees you’ll be restarting again and again.
Off-Road is my favorite of the bunch but each of the current six games has a wonderful art style and visuals that seem incalculably good for the traditional expectations of a web game. Though there are varying levels of maturity across the games they also play just as brilliantly as they look.
Blurst plans on releasing six new games this year and the site continues growing (a full on Community is in the works as well) but for now there’s a good week’s worth of captivating 3D gaming for anyone who hasn’t kept up with these guys since last year. And if you’re wondering what else that Unity 3D engine is capable of, check out these other demos or any of these games out in the real world, and look for it to power a good 50% of the games coming to the iPhone this year.
