A Little Wishlist Fun
I was thinking it’d be fun to insight some frivolous geeky gushing while we’re out of town so please comment back with your own ideas and we’ll catch up when we get back!
Assuming that Xbox Live Arcade would be home to any and all arcade titles, the Wii’s Virtual Console would carry any cartridge-based game you can recall, and Sony’s PlayStation Network would offer gig upon gig of PlayStation 1 or 2 titles, which games would you most like to see retooled or rereleased? It could be anything; a favorite game you wish more people could have the chance to experience or just a title you think would fit well in the short-attention-span, ADHD addled, hyper-paced marketplace of today’s gaming.
Oh, and there’s no file size restrictions or legal muck to worry about here! Who cares if the developer shut down or got bought out? Just gimme a list, here’s my off-the-top-of-my-head gut reactions.
Xbox Live Arcade for reliving those so-many-tokens-in-my-pocket-my- pants-are-at-my-ankles memories:
- Vigilante – My all-time favorite beat-em-up!
- Chiller – Because every console needs a lightgun… and I’m still a little morbid
- EGGS – Play as a tomato who shoots his eyeballs at a lasgna monster while kicking eggs!
- Mutant Fighter – One of my favorite arcade games that’s still not available for MAME!
- X-Men or Ninja Warriors – C’mon, they were made for the widescreen era!
- Turbo Force – The only shooter to feature flying cars with ginormous lasers!
- Midnight Resistance – Because the control is never emulated quite right in MAME
Virtual Console for playing ROMs with a wireless controller on a TV:
- Psycho Pinball (Genesis) – Still more fun than any Pinball game I’ve played!
- Batman (NES) – It actually gets better the older it gets!
- Ranger X (Genesis) – A wondrous, challenging, and thoughtful adventure that everyone should have the opportunity to play
- Bonk’s Revenge (TG-16) – It’s online for real! Go get it!
- Thunder Force IV (Genesis) – One of the best shooters… still!
- The New Tetris (N64) – It should really be called The BEST Tetris!!
- Beetle Adventure Racing (N64) – Right up there with Rush for crazy shortcuts and wild design
PlayStation Network for better performance than emulated PS2 backward compatibility:
- Backstreet Billiards – A billiards RPG with more modes than any game since
- Bust-A-Move 1 &2 – Great tunes with gameplay so unique that it’s only now being ripped off
- Rally Cross – Great physics to this very day! Forget Motorstorm (ok, maybe not)
- Philosoma – Generic but cinematic shooter that still sucks me in
- Brahma Force – FPS mech, platforming action that spawned my very first online username!
- City Crisis – A fun little rescue helicopter title that requires you to save dogs from third-degree burns
- Mad Maestro – It’d be great retooled with SIXAXIS baton control (even better on Wii)
- R.A.D. – Because everyone should destroy cities with remote controlled mechs!
