♫ The Requisite Halloween Music Post
For no one other than myself I have been keeping up the tradition I started way back in 1999. Back then Gamefusion was still goin’ strong and I’d started a Shoutcast station because I apparently didn’t have enough to do. Around Halloween time I made up a playlist of creepy/scary music from games. Since then I’ve managed to make a post wherever I could around this day of the year.
And thanks to the awesome Dewplayer I can keep the tradition going here. This is the multi-track player so use the Previous/Next buttons on the right to skip tracks. There are four total:
Save Room by Masami Ueda from Resident Evil
This one’s just a classic. Somehow it manages to be soothing and tense at the same time. You know you can’t get attacked in save rooms in the original Resident Evil but this tune really makes you ponder letting your guard down.
Ballroom Disco by Rare Ltd. from Grabbed by the Ghoulies
Sure, the game wasn’t so great but the music hits the parody nail right on the head with a big homage hammer. All the tracks stir up memories of Scooby Doo or those old black-and-white monster movies. This one reminds me a bit of The Munsters with its guitar and organ rock.
Crypt City by Steve Kirk from Voodoo Vince
Not really that scary, the track is nonetheless fitting of its derelict in-game setting and mixes up just the right amount of blues and ghost town harmonica funk.
You’re Not Here by Akira Yamaoka & Melissa Williams from Silent Hill 3
Konami has defied horror game logic recently by redirecting its music from moaning ambiance to soulful rock and blues, and somehow it’s even creepier for it. Also, this song was the perfect end to the Silent Hill movie.
Happy Halloween everyone!
