Never Forget! Fire Fighting Comes to the Wii
I thought for sure that the first fire fighting game on the Wii would be a port of Sega’s old Brave Firefighters from the arcade but Epicenter Studios has come out of nowhere with Real Heroes: Firefighter, set for a late 2008 release. Just like Sega’s game of old, Epicenter boasts proprietary “thinking fire” technology that will theoretically make every scenario unique. You’ll also be out to rescue survivors and free fellow firemenpersons by using an array of “realistic firefighting tools and techniques”. So unlike every other fire fighting game out there you won’t be chasing mad bombers or a truckload of escaped convicts through a flaming zoo while trying to find a Blue Key Card.
“Combining our unique fire tech with the specific strengths of the Wii was a natural choice for us as we designed Real Heroes,” says Epicenter CCO Bryan Jury. “The Wii-mote makes spraying down fires with your hose, hacking down doors with your axe and prying victims loose from wrecked cars with the Jaws of Life® an absolutely visceral game experience.”
“The Wii is a family-friendly console and we’ve designed Real Heroes with that in mind,” notes Epicenter CEO Nathaniel McClure. “Because firefighting requires a lot more than dousing flames, Real Heroes emphasizes non-violent, game-integral puzzles that mirror the challenges and on-the-fly choices firefighters actually face.”
Could Real Heroes be the next trend for the Wii and Epicenter’s gravy train? If they pull off a playable, tasteful, realistic experience with Firefighter I could definitely see Real Heroes: Police Officer, Real Heroes: Army/Navy/Marines/Air Force, or Real Heroes: Good Humor Man. The Wii — above all consoles — could probably monopolize an American Patriotism genre.
