My First 1,000

Between Lego Star Wars II, Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires, and now Gears of War my Xbox Live Gamerscore officially hit 1,000 this past week. Microsoft totally hit on something with the whole Gamerscore thing. I’m not sure if it’s helped match me up for online games (of which I’ve played very few) but it’s given me something more to aim for from playing.

I like browsing and comparing my experiences to others — not in a competitive way — just to see what everyone’s been up to. I like the whole Achievements system, how most games dish out a few in the first few days and hold back the rest for later. I can play, feel like I’ve accomplished something — and then after I’m bored with the game — I check out the remaining Achievements to focus my efforts.

If I were smart and had more time I’d just rent every game and play it for a weekend to beef up on those early Achievements, but for now I’ll stick with my mix of one or two retail games and a handful of pick-up-and-play Live Arcade titles. Here’s my full breakdown at 1,000 points. As you can see to the right, a little more time with Gears of War has already put me over.
