googleDrive: One step closer to My dream!

googleDrive

Another dream game I’ve been waiting for technology to make possible is a real time persistant world where all the roads and landscape are modeled on real world GPS data. You could actually drive to your friends house and then race around their town, exploring the city and just messing around. Today, we are one teensy tiny step closer to my dream.

GoogleDrive is a little project that web developer/designer PhatFusion has been working on which turns Google Maps into a mini driving game. Use the arrow keys to putt around most any town that Google has maps of.Β  You’re actually bound to the roads (and grass, water is off limits) and there’s some momentum involved that makes it feel a little more like you’re really driving. Go on, stick in your zip code and see if you can’t drive to your house. He’s working on a racing variant as well as a new version with satellite imagery. Some day I’ll come crashing into your living room in the Batmobile. For now, I’ll drive my daily commute to work with my arrow keys.
